Master Bathroom Renovation WITHOUT a Renovation

The Secret: A “Renovation” Without Renovating

Here’s the truth about our “newly renovated” master bathroom… we didn’t renovate it at all. No demo days, no dust everywhere, no tile being ripped out. Just a series of thoughtful, strategic updates that completely transformed the space—and honestly, I love it even more because of that.

When we first moved in, the bathroom felt dark, dated, and not quite us. I truly didn't feel like gutting the bathroom with a baby on the way, so we did a low-lift renovation that really elevated this space for us beautifully.

The Mood Board: My Non-Negotiable Step

Before making any big decisions, I always create a mood board. Always. It’s my guiding light, my design compass, my “let’s not make expensive mistakes” tool.

I like to see everything together—colors, textures, finishes—before committing. It helps me understand the direction of the space and keeps me from impulsively saying things like, “Let’s just marble everything!” (which, trust me, I considered).

Initially, I thought we’d paint the cabinets white, redo the tile, go full light-and-bright. But the more I studied the house, the more I realized… that wasn’t the right move.

This home has warmth. It wants warmth.

So instead of fighting it, we leaned in.

The Design Shift: Letting the House Lead

Rather than covering up the beautiful mahogany cabinetry, we embraced it. Paired with soft gold hardware, it suddenly felt rich, classic, and intentional instead of dated.

It’s funny—brown is having a moment again, and I completely understand why. There’s something so grounding and elegant about it.

We swapped out the old black hardware, updated the lighting (the new sconces are adorable and shockingly affordable), and just like that, the space started to feel alive again.

The Solution: Enter GLS Supply

Now let’s talk about where the magic really happened—GLS Supply here in Birmingham.

Walking into their showroom is a little dangerous in the best way. Their faucets aren't as much hardware as they are jewelry.

Their team is incredible. Even if you walk in with zero plan, they guide you through everything—mixing finishes, suggesting pairings, pulling up options right in front of you so you can actually see it all come together. We ended up choosing a mix of Delta and Kingston Brass fixtures in the most beautiful warm gold finish.

The faucets? Stunning. The tub hardware? Elegant. Even the shower fixtures feel special.

And the best part? GLS delivers everything straight to your door (which, if you’ve ever tried to coordinate fixtures yourself, you know is a dream).

The Final Touches: Light, Symmetry, and a Little Art

One of my favorite tricks in this space was adding two mirrors on either side of the window. It bounces light around the room and makes everything feel brighter and more open.

We kept things symmetrical with double towel bars (because balance = instant calm), and I added a couple of my own botanical paintings—an orchid and a peony—for a soft touch of color.

I’ve learned that in a warm home like this, neutrals can be your best friend. They create a timeless foundation, and you can always layer in color through art, flowers, and smaller pieces that you can switch out whenever you like.

The Result: A Space That Feels Like Us

What started as a dark, slightly forgotten bathroom is now one of my favorite rooms in our home. It’s warm, it’s elegant, and it feels so intentional.

And maybe the best part? Just four weeks postpartum, it’s become a little sanctuary. A place to step away for a moment, take a breath, and feel surrounded by beauty.

No renovation required.
