Our Proposal Story
Here it is. The story I’ve been waiting my whole life to write. The man I’ve been waiting for my whole life. The story that God set in motion on that January day in Starbucks. And the story of a blessing sent from my daddy in Heaven.I feel my dad the most on the golf course. I take a golf cart ride every now and then just to feel him. It’s magical. It’s like he’s right there next to me. It’s just so good. May 3 is Glenn Graham Day in Marietta, Georgia, as instituted by our Mayor (and daddy’s friend). He’s a saint. He gave daddy a whole day. And I wanted to be on the golf course that day.Stephen was sitting beside me on the golf cart and asked where my favorite spot was, so I drove us to the lake where my grandfather drove his golfcart into the lake… LOL
We walked by the lake, it was quiet and at the end of a Sunday, we had the whole place to ourselves. As the fountains spritzed our cheeks and the sunset beamed through the trees, Stephen pulled out a navy little velvet ring box, got down on one knee, and said, “*insert sweet wonderful things that are private*… Heather Nicole Graham, will you marry me?” and my answer (which Stephen just LOVES to tell people) was ‘yes! 1,000 times yes!’
He put the ring on my finger, my great grandmother’s diamond, which we picked out together, and I HAD to remember this moment, I didn’t want to leave. So we watched the sunset by the lake, prayed, and laughed about how we were going to tell our parents. We surprised my family (mom, sissy, and bro-in-law), popped champagne, and were met with questions we hadn’t even thought of, like, ‘what’s the date? How many people do you want to have? Where are you going to live?’ But we simply replied asking that they let us simmer in this glorious moment. Stephen and I were in a blur and any decision about the wedding we made that day was going to change. So we sipped Veuve Cliquot, had strawberries and basked in the goodness of God and His promises.A few days after we got engaged, something even more amazing happened… The song “The Blessing” had come out a few months ago and I didn’t pay much attention to it, but for some reason, God allowed something in my spirit stir and said, “this is for you” but I didn’t understand. It didn’t seem to be relevant… Later that evening, I asked God “why this song?” and the Holy Spirit brought to my mind that this was from Daddy in Heaven to me & Stephen. This is the blessing that Stephen wanted from my dad all along. This is the blessing we will carry forever. This is what my daddy is praying over us in Heaven. How amazing.
The Blessing Lyrics:
And keep you
Make His face shine upon you
And be gracious to you
The Lord turn His
Face toward you
And give you peace
Amen, amen, amen
And a thousand generations
Your family and your children
And their children, and their children
And behind you, and beside you
All around you, and within you
He is with you, He is with you
In your coming, and your going
In your weeping, and rejoicing
He is for you, He is for you
He is for you, He is for you
Amen, amen, amen
Did you catch that? He is FOR you. Don’t ever stop believing that!
P.S. Daddy, I wish I could see you & Stephen meet in person but I know you’re seeing all of this. I love you so much, I miss you every day and constantly. We will always pursue to honor you and bring glory to God in all we do. Together. The future Tamburellos.
